Dr. Norberto C. Olavides
6th PIT President

NORBERTO CAGA OLAVIDES, 59, (born June 5, 1957) is the sixth president of the Palompon Institute of Technology. His nine-year stint as PIT Vice President for Administration ended when he began his tenure on March 11, 2016.

Raised by his parents Andres and Epitacia in Cogtong, Candijay, Bohol, Dr. Olavides went to attend his secondary education at Bohol Island State University, formerly Bohol School of Fisheries. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Fisheries from the same university. He received his master’s degree (1979) in Vocational Education and doctoral degree (2002) in Educational Programs Management from the Eastern Visayan State University, Tacloban City.

Right after receiving his master’s degree, he became a full-fledged Fishery Technologist in 1980 and Professional Teacher the following year.

Apart from being the Vice President for Administration from 2009 to 2016, he also held various posts in the PIT administration including Vice President for Research, Extension, and External Affairs (2006 - 2007), Dean of the College of Education (2003 - 2006), Director for Extension Services (2001 - 2003), and Assistant Director for Extension Services (1994 - 1999).

As a research-driven individual, 15 of his research outputs/studies (7 of which were co-authored) had been published, aside from the various papers and outputs he presented inside and outside the Institute. As faculty of the College of Advanced Education, he also devoted time as Thesis and Dissertation Adviser to graduate students. He also served as one of the accreditors to curricular programs of State Colleges and Universities of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities of the Philippines, Inc. (AACCUP). Thus, despite not being a true-blue Palomponganon, his contribution and dedication is truly remarkable as manifested in his 35-year service to the Institute.

Despite being a busy academician and administrator, he is still able to take part in several professional and religious organizations which has further honed his professional and social well-being. He has been active in the Knights of Columbus being once a District Deputy and Grand Knight, as well as being very visible in his services in the Eucharistic Ministry of St. Francis Xavier Parish.

Dr. Olavides saw light in this world on June 5, 1957. Known to many as the very down-to-earth and very approachable “Sir Norbing”, he is married to Dr. Ma. Marilyn L. Olavides, PIT's Director for Extension Services. He is the father of Shammahbert, Shammahnor and Shamn Pas Andrew.
