Today, April 30, the PIT-Supreme Student Government (SSG) is currently having their General Assembly at the PIT-Gymnasium, where representatives from various sectors of the student government come together to discuss and address important matters. Following this assembly is the Grand Debate 2024, where candidates for the SSG Election 2024 will showcase their platforms and demonstrate their commitment to serving the student body.

There are two party lists contending in this year's PIT-SSG election. One is the CHILLIN’ Party (Conclave of Hardworking Intellectual Adept Leaders of Learning and Innovation Vying for a Noble Cause). Among their platforms is the implementation of a Paperless Smart Attendance system to promote environmental sustainability. Additionally, they advocate for Sports and Recreational Engagement, proposing E-Sports and physical sports that aims to cater to the diverse interests and preferences of students. The CHILLIN’ Party also prioritizes student mental health and empowerment through initiatives like Campus GPS, Fresh n’ Fancy providing essential items especially for girls, Graduation Getaway, Scholars Archive, and more.

Meanwhile, the second party list, SPARK (Student Participation for Ardent Resiliency and Knowledge-Oriented Leaders), presents its own set of plans and platforms. They initiated their platform discussion with the "Piso kada Libo" project, wherein students will only pay 1 peso for every 1,000.00 transaction via G-Cash, making it significantly more affordable compared to other transaction methods. This provides students with the convenience of cashing in or out recognizing that the majority of students now utilize this application. Also, part of their platform is organizing leadership trainings, offering opportunities for students to unwind after exams, and running campaigns to raise awareness about mental health. They also plan to introduce the "Movement for Academic Improvement through Asking-an-Ally" service (M.A.I.A), offering department-based tutorials to students seeking additional academic support and guidance.

In addition to presenting their platforms, both party lists engaged in a formal debate that serves as a significant forum for voters to assess the candidates' competence and suitability for the position. This also provides the candidates the opportunity to persuade students by demonstrating their commitment and dedication to serving the student body.

The PIT-SSG election is scheduled on May 3, 2024.

Best of luck, and may the best candidate win!
